BLU-RAY STANDARD CONTENT
BLU-RAY Standard Content is basically the same as standard definition with the exception of frame size and MPEG codecs. While standard definition DVD frame size of the MPEG2 compliant stream is 720 pixels by 480 pixels with an encode rate of no more than 9.2 megabits per second.
BLU-RAY (and Blue Ray) are 1220 by 720 pixels, 1440 by 1080 pixels and 1920 pixels by 1080 pixels with an encode rate of no more than 29 megabits per second. These settings produce a BLU-RAY video signal equal if not superior to HD TV.
Regardless of the camera taking system, be it HD or HDV the files must be converted into MPEG2 HD or MPEG4 advanced codecs such as H-264 or VC-1. These are highly specific codecs that must be configured exactly to be importable into professional BLU-RAY authoring systems. With BLU-RAY standard content the video, audio and menu must conform to the larger size formats in 720p or 1080i(p). Other than these assets the rest of the authoring process is more similar than dissimilar to standard content DVD.
